What is the moral difference between a dog and a pig?

Most of us…

…have interacted with dogs, cats, and other fellow animals who often share homes with humans.  So when contemplating the moral value of other species, it makes sense to first ask ourselves what the difference is between individuals from species we have met, and species who are bred, used, and murdered.

This leaves us asking the question, “Is there really any difference between dogs, pigs, or other species for that matter… or are we all simply animals?”

* It’s important to note that while dogs are genuinely respected, they are still victims of speciesism such as being forced to race, fight, and they are eaten in some countries.

Before we ask ‘how?’ …ask:

Why?

Despite there being no moral difference between different species of our fellow animals, they are still widely ‘bred,’ used and murdered.

How would you feel if a fellow animal who you had connected with and gotten to know was forced into the situations individuals of other species are forced into on a daily basis?

Fortunately through living vegan and empowering ourselves through various advocacy techniques, we can stop being part of the problem, and start to be part of the solution. That is the goal of VeganInteractions.com.

What is Veganism?

Living vegan means opposing animal use, such as:
• Eating their bodies or what comes from them
• Wearing their skin or hair
• Testing on their bodies
• Forcing them to ‘entertain’ us

Living vegan isn’t about being perfect. It’s about doing what we can to prevent the violation of other animals’ basic moral rights. This means seeing them as someone versus something, regardless of their species.

What is Speciesism?

The underlying cause of animal use, is speciesism.  This is the discrimination and domination of humans over other animals, due primarily because of their species.  This arbitrary discrimination is similar to human-centric forms of discrimination such as sexism and racism.  If you oppose human-centric forms of discrimination, why not extend that same respect to our fellow animals?

What is Animal Rights?

What is Animal Rights?
The philosophy of animal rights says that all animals are unique individuals who, like us, experience life. This means we all have a valid claim to basic moral rights – both humans and our fellow animals.

• Animal rights is an extension of human rights theory
• The focus is on moral rights (not legal rights)
• Experiencing life means having interests
• A right is a way of protecting an interest
• Breeding, using, displacing, or killing someone is a violation of their rights

It could also be said that animal rights all comes down to one key right, the right to be respected.

A summary of animal rights could be:
“An individual’s basic moral right to be respected and to not be bred, used, or murdered.”

Where should our advocacy start?

Language

The words we use shape the way we view the world, and by extension, how others view the world.

To test this, try to go through a day without using language specific for our fellow animals that we wouldn’t also use for humans. It’s more challenging than you might think!

Free Vegan-Curious Support

Resources to get you started including access to registered dietitians, experienced mentors, and a community of others new to veganism.

Abolition, not ‘Welfare’

If we can agree animal use is a moral atrocity, the answer should not be how can we regulate it, but how can we end it altogether.

Evolving Our Language

Our language is speciesist by default. To challenge speciesism, we must first challenge our language.

“But the issue is so big…”

Take it one step at a time

It is not practicable for any one of us to end animal use by ourselves, all at once.
We must identify the key issues, decide how to respond individually, and encourage others to do the same through our advocacy.

Why

Remember that our fellow animals are at the center of veganism and animal advocacy.
